1. What is Thaipography Archive?

Thaipography Archive is a public library by Boomtype that collects, studies, and shares information about Thai letterforms.

2. Does this website only collect photos and locations?

The site is still under development, and some features may not yet work perfectly.

In the future, it will include a timeline of Thai typography and updates related to Thai typography.
You can follow progress and updates in the Blog section.

3. What if I’ve uploaded something but want a photo or location removed?

Thaipography Archive does not store your photos directly.

All data is pulled from Instagram/Flickr. If you wish to remove an image or location from the website or the map, you can:

• Remove the hashtag from your post.
• Remove the location tag from your post.

Once removed, the image or location will no longer appear on the website.

4. How is the information on the website used?

All content on the site is for educational purposes only and not intended for commercial use.

Type designers typically keep their own image collections and study the history of letterforms as part of their research. Boomtype believes that information about Thai type design is still fragmented and often overlooked, with few spaces for public discussion or shared learning.

This website was created to share Boomtype’s research and to provide a platform where people can debate, ask questions, and help recover lost information about Thai letterforms.

5. How can I use the images for commercial purposes (e.g., in a book or zine)?

Please contact:
The Instagram account that originally posted the image.
The shop or owner of the sign (if applicable).

Thaipography Archive does not permit using images without permission from the image owner, sign or print owner.

If using images for educational purposes, we recommend giving full credit to the original photographer, not just to this website.

6. How are photos stored on the website?

The site does not store any photos directly.

All images are sourced from Instagram/Flickr, along with the account name and posting date of the original photographer.

7. Is “Thaipography” a special term?

Not exactly. Thaipography is a play on the word Typography.

It combines Thai + Typography, meaning the arrangement or design of Thai letterforms. The hashtag #thaipography is widely used on Instagram for posts about Thai lettering. We love this word because replacing “ty” with “Thai” gives it a distinct Thai character, perfectly suited to discussions of Thai type. We added Archive to the name to reflect not only current works but also the preservation of past ones—similar to a “Type Archive.”
